Run Ralph Run

タイトルは、映画『Run Lola Run』をもじってみました。

さて、昨日11/4は、アメリカ大統領選挙の日。

オバマが圧倒的な勝利をおさめました。
当然といえば当然の結果でした。

住んでいるアパートの集会所が、投票所になっていて、朝から人の列が。

アイスクリームショップ　Ben&Jerry では、大統領選挙の日には、投票した人もそうでない人でも、無料でアイスクリームが振舞われます。

4年前の選挙のときは、まだPowell Street にBen&Jerryのショップがあってにぎわってました。
今は、デパートMacy'sの地下にお店がありましたので、さっそく仕事の後、立ち寄ってみました。


予想していたよりも人がいないな、と思って、列の最後列に並ぼうと思ったら、お店の角の壁の向こう側に人の列。
やっぱり。
でも、お店のお兄さん、お姉さんがどんどん客を捌いていくので待ち時間はほんの3-4分でした。私のお気に入りは、やっぱり　Strawberry Cheesecake　です。


さて、私が崇拝するラルフネイダー。

2大政党の候補者に比べれば、雑誌、テレビなどのメディアでの露出は極めて少なく、人々に彼の存在を知ってもらうことすら難しいのが現実。

だって共和党、民主党、どちらも大企業からの献金、寄付金がハンパじゃない！！
ってーことは、つまり、どっちの政党にしても、大企業に都合のよい取り計らいがある、ということではないでしょうか？

私は、アメリカ市民ではないので（アメリカに住んでいるけど国籍は日本のままなので）、選挙権はないのですが、ラルフネイダーの声が皆に届くといいな、と、ＢＡＲＴ駅前でビラを配ったり、もっとラルフネイダーのことを知りたいので彼の本を読んだり。
小さくても、できることからコツコツと。


今日は、ラルフネイダー自身が、4年後の2012年の大統領選挙に再び立候補するかも、と表明！
あきらめない、この姿勢に涙が出そう。

“自分以外、誰が大統領になっても国はかわらない。
国を変えるには自分しかいない”って強い信念があるんだよね。

走り続ける理由は、自分たちの利益のためじゃなく、一般のフツーの人たちのため。
ラルフネイダー自身は、車も家も所有してないんだって。
物欲とかあまりないんだろうね。何かを所有する、とか、興味の範疇外なんだと思う、きっと。

次の選挙までの4年間、もっともっと何かできるかも。
ラルフネイダーは今74歳だから、次の選挙のときは78歳。
いつまでも健康で頑張って欲しい。

若さとはある人生のある一時のことではなく、ココロのあり方だ。
Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind.

まさに彼にぴったりの言葉です。


『　Nader 'Maybe' Will Run for President in 2012

(CNSNews.com) - Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader said on Tuesday that he may run for president again in 2012, adding that nothing will change in Washington whether Democrat Barack Obama or Republican John McCain becomes the next president.

Speaking at the National Press Club, Nader said he thinks Obama will win in a “landslide” and that Democrats will win a 60-seat-filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

Nader’s candidacy in the 2000 election, in which he received 2.74 percent of the popular vote, caused some analysts to say he attracted votes that otherwise would have gone to Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore and thus tilted the election in favor of George W. Bush.

But in this presidential race, Nader said he did not think his candidacy would hurt either the Democrats or the Republicans, although he thinks he is attracting some McCain voters.

“When my name is in the poll, McCain’s name goes down, Obama’s name stays the same,”
Nader explained when CNSNews.com asked him how it was possible that he was attracting more McCain voters than Obama voters, yet not assisting the Democratic Party in gaining the White House.

But “I don’t conclude anything” from that, Nader said.
“That’s just what the polls say. They could be wrong.”

Nader said he favored neither Obama nor McCain.

In the 2004 election Nader won 0.38 percent of the popular vote.　』
